How to make an RJ45 to RJ45 rollover cable

rollover cable (also known as a Yost cableCisco cable, or a Console cable) is a type of null-modem cable that is used to connect a computer terminal to a router's console port. This cable is typically flat (and has a light blue color) to help distinguish it from other types of network cabling. It gets the name rollover because the pinouts on one end are reversed from the other, as if the wire had been rolled over and you were viewing it from the other side.

We can find many forms of rollover cables:

  • RJ45 to DB9:

    This type of cable have opposite pin assignments as stated above, which means pin 1 is connected to pin 8 on the other side, pin 2 to pin 7, pin 3 to pin 6 and so on. In the following example, the 568B standard is used and rolled over.
